Aspirants, if you prefer, demanding the best of themselves&#8230; working, perhaps, in a sort of conflicting harmony \u2013 the barometer of excellence being determined by doing the best we can&#8230; extending ourselves to pursue the limits of our abilities and endurance.\u00a0 The ultimate in ourselves being shown on the court and off the court as well.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Why do we play Badminton? If all there is to the game is winning or losing, perhaps we should consider a different perspective.<\/p>\n<p>Our involvement in &#8220;our game&#8221; demands an outlook that considers the psychological aspect&#8230; sportsmanship being a prime requisite.\u00a0 There is among us a great sisterhood and brotherhood that embodies the needs and aspirations of the entire Badminton family&#8230; a family (closely knit) with a mutual purpose and a significant mutual bond.\u00a0 We bring to the game a total desire and total application that lifts ourselves within the game to be everything we can be &#8211; no quarter asked, no quarter given.\u00a0 We give our very best \u2013 NO LESS! We, thereby, bring to life the &#8220;spirit&#8221;!<\/p>\n<p>Camaraderie and esprit de corps are the benchmarks of a quality Badminton player.\u00a0 Spirited players readily compliment other players on good shots, take care to maintain the tempo of the game by refusing to be abusively effusive with a win or a loss&#8230; by readily exchanging a handshake before and after the game.\u00a0 No ethical player would consider a questionable line call and should readily retrieve the bird from his side of the net.\u00a0 Accept your bracket designation with proper decorum.\u00a0 Cooperate with the desk.\u00a0 Maintain and abide by the dress code.\u00a0 Be on time for your matches&#8230; give your fellow player consideration in all aspects of the game.\u00a0 Maintain proper court presence.\u00a0 These are the marks of a Badminton player extraordinaire.<\/p>\n<p>All of us have been the recipients of good fellowship, instructions from other players, benefits from hard-working officers and tournament committees who have indefatigably volunteered their services (for the love of the game) and overseers during our apprenticeship.\u00a0 Therefore, we owe something back to Badminton\u2026 out of the sense of fair-play (if for no other reason) we should PUT SOMETHING BACK INTO THE GAME!\u00a0 We should feel that spirit of obligation by replacing what we have extracted from Badminton.<\/p>\n<p>The natural inclination is to \u201clet George do it\u201d \u2013 however, George is saying the same thing \u2013 so whatever needs to be done just doesn\u2019t get done.\u00a0 Taking a quote from John F. Kennedy, \u201cLet\u2019s not ask what Badminton can do for us, but what we can do for Badminton.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From a negative standpoint, no one appreciates the pouting of a loser, the downgrading criticism of a partner\u2019s play, improper deportment on the court or any demonstration lacking character.\u00a0 It detracts from the \u201cspirit\u201d of the game.\u00a0 Everyone suffers and Badminton does too.<\/p>\n<p>Badminton people are special people&#8230; the atmosphere of the game, in our chosen sport, is disseminated in such a way that everyone is affected.\u00a0 Good play and good sportsmanship is contagious.\u00a0 The enjoyment is diffused to one\u2019s partner, to the audience, to everyone \u2013 creating a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">total spirit, admired and appreciated and imitated so that everyone\u2019s appreciation of the game is enhanced!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In Badminton, the golden rule is completely applicable \u2013 your conduct and your appreciation of the spirit of Badminton will most generally reflect the treatment and consideration other players will give you.\u00a0 Give others the respect you would like for yourself\u2026 the results will be amazing.<\/p>\n<p>Conversely, if by chance, you have been mistreated or abused within the game, double your intention to return special consideration to that player \u2013 the other player will get the message and the problem stops there.\u00a0 Then everyone benefits.\u00a0 It\u2019s character building and it\u2019s praiseworthy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usbef.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/witte_duck1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-460 \" title=\"witte_duck\" src=\"http:\/\/www.usbef.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/witte_duck1-216x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"285\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.usbef.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/witte_duck1-216x300.png 216w, https:\/\/www.usbef.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/witte_duck1.png 236w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 205px) 100vw, 205px\" \/><\/a>Christian endeavor will be related to others by the example we set\u2026 Badminton is an elitist sport and the quality of the sport is determined by the class of its constituents.\u00a0 In the final analysis, we should all be able to say to ourselves \u2013 \u201cBADMINTON IS BETTER, BECAUSE I PLAYED THE GAME!<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s your appreciation and love of the game that means something, because\u2026<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">YOU ARE BADMINTON!<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">WITHIN YOU IS THE SPIRIT OF BADMINTON!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">\u00a0Permission is granted to duplicate at your discretion<br \/>\nDick Witte, Badminton Wizard<br \/>\nWitte12@juno.com<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The &#8220;spirit&#8221; of Badminton involves a proper attitude concerning the game\u00a0\u2013 a perspective that considers, for one, that there are no opponents \u2013 only participants.
